In 2004, Pakiam, daughter of Gopal, a 68 year old Malaysian woman who speaks four languages (Tamil, Malay, Chinese and English), realized the need to provide safe housing, an education, structure and love to many children of troubled homes. While doing welfare visits, she found children not going to school, unsupervised, and getting in trouble. These children faced single parent homes, ones dealing with HIV, ones in rehabilitation or just ones unable to provide properly for them. Pakiam began to help these children with her own savings account money as she provided a good place to live, food to nourish them, education to foster their growth and love to encourage them.
